Openismus wants trainees

It has always been difficult to find GNOME developers to employ. So for a while I have wanted to grow some new developers of our own. Now that the Berlin office is established we are ready to start by hiring some junior developers.

If you are smart and enthusiastic but you lack experience then we can provide the opportunity. You would work mostly on existing open source projects instead of customer projects, just to get experience with C, C++, GTK+ and Qt. Our developers would provide technical guidance and encourage you to work and communicate in a structured way, creating software that’s actually usable and useful.

This is also a great opportunity to move to Berlin – a wonderful city for young people.

    Shoot! Either 2.5 years too late or 1.5 years too early for me. And I used to live only an U-Bahn stop away. When I’m finished school here in San Diego I’ll definitely be dropping off me CV.

    I graduated in Computer Science last year… I’m working with Functional Testing for 15 months now and I can’t wait to switch to development! But I live in Brazil and don’t speak any German… Do I stand a chance?

    Thiago, you don’t need to speak German. We work in English. But you need to move to Berlin.

    Wow! I was just recently searching for an opportunity like this (and beginning to wonder if it existed). But, like Philip, I still have 3 more years of University left. Any chance of a summer internship opportunity? I would love to visit germany and get to work on GNOME, its like a dream come true.

    I’d seriously consider this offer but it’s pretty intimidating to have to move across seas for it. But it certainly does sound like a very exciting opportunity, and America’s market for Open Source developers isn’t growing nearly as fast as Europe’s. Is there any more information you can give us w.r.t who you’re looking for specifically?

    How are relocations handled? If someone needs to move to Berlin from the United States, are relocation expenses covered? What about any work-permits?

    Wow this is great! There’s no way I’d be able to Move to Berlin (for now) but would you guys consider a summer internship over there or working from here in the US for free (just for experience)?

    Jared, A. Walton, we are not really interested in doing all the work necessary to get work permits from people outside of the EU. That’s not our area of expertise, and there would be a risk that we would train you but then lose you later.

    Brian, Michael, a summer internship would not be that useful to us. We want to invest in you so you can be an experienced productive employee after a few months. But there’s no return on our investment if you just learn and leave. Large companies sometimes provide summer internships in case a few of the interns return full-time 3 years later, but we can’t plan that far ahead or live with those percentages. But you’d never learn as much at a large company.

    Deniz, I don’t understand. The When is “now” and the how is “email me”.

    eTM, paid, but not highly. But if people learn quickly then they will become highly paid developers quickly.

    I am from France.
    I can and I am willing to go to Berlin now.
    I am resolved to become a gnome developer.
