GUADEC Party is now the Novell GUADEC Party

Sunday, May 29th, 2005

Good news. Novell's last-minute sponsorship allows us to make the GUADEC party half-price tomorrow (Monday). That's 10 Euros for entry, a little food, and all drinks until 11pm. You will need your GUADEC name badge to get that deal at the door.
It's nice to see Novell taking over the Ximian party tradition.

GUADEC: Antenna adaptor needed

Friday, May 27th, 2005

I don't understand the details, but maybe you do. Joerg Hoh mentions that they need a particular adaptor and/or suitable replacement 11a access point to make the internet connection to the building across the road. Maybe someone can find/lend something? Comments to him, not me, please.

GUADEC Speakers' Reception

Friday, May 27th, 2005

Don't forget that Nokia and Stuttgart Business Region are giving a GUADEC speakers' reception tomorrow (Saturday) at 7pm.

To GUADEC

Thursday, May 26th, 2005

I'm off to GUADEC soon, probably visiting Karlsruhe tomorrow along the way. I'll arrive in Stuttgart early Saturday morning for the GNOME Foundation board meeting, then es geht los on Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday,
This year's GUADEC has been stressful to organize, largely because we haven't communicated well enough together, and because we didn't get all […]

Copenhagen

Thursday, May 26th, 2005

I was in Copenhagen at the weekend. It's pretty when the sun shines, and it has a nice mix of european quality of life with British-style consumer choice. Specifically, I mean, there's pavement cafés, but you can also get bagels and vegetable samosas at the 7-11. I notice these things. It's also expensive like London, […]

Mac-style Hierarchical Spatial

Thursday, May 19th, 2005

I hoped somebody would manage to do this already, so I'll blog it to keep the idea out there.
As far as I know, the Nautilus maintainers would be happy to show folder contents inside spatial Nautilus windows, like the old Mac Finder in this screenshot. This would solve the many-windows problem (even with the undiscoverable […]

libsigc++ patch

Saturday, May 14th, 2005

I was really pleased to get a big libsigc++ patch a few days ago from Régis Duchesne at vmware, to fix some crashes that affect a libsigc++ technique they are using. It required significant time, and a deep understanding of both libsigc++ and C++ templates in general. In mature projects, maintainers are often left […]

New Glom web site

Thursday, May 12th, 2005

I put together a more presentable/expandable web site for Glom. I used MediaWiki again, because it works so well.

GUADEC cheap accommodation - last chance

Thursday, May 12th, 2005

As I mentioned a few days ago, there's a chance of some really cheap accommodation for GUADEC attendees.
I think lots of people want to use this, but so far only 6 of you have told us. Have all our penniless students become rich 4-star hotel types? If not, you need to tell us today. Email […]

Glom: Reports

Wednesday, May 11th, 2005

I started Glom's Reports feature. So far it does simple “by” reports, though I still have to add the summary (sum, average, etc) part. I'm fairly sure this is all most people need, and they can use Postgres directly if they have more advanced needs.
The appearance can be improved by changing the CSS, and/or changing […]
